1.5 degree by 2025 is announced. What can you do about it? Join the Atlas tsunami🌊
People round the world are getting scared, corporates are starting to dance, your action matter, as this is the story you will tell to your children.
Last week’s news that we have a 50/50 chance of hitting the dreaded 1.5-degree temperature rise at any time in the next five years is an awful admission of failure.
We have treated this figure as a red line for more than twenty years. Cross it, and we are doomed. Restrict the rise to a figure below 1.5, and we are relatively safe. So what are we to do now? Move the red line?
🤷♂️Accepting the doomer’s status quo?

I want to sound a positive note in the face of an apparent disaster. Climate Change is a misnomer. Climates Change is the correct term. Climates are different from region to region, and can then be sub-divided again into Micro-climates. All are different. We may hit +1.5 degrees at any time in the next five years, but it will not be uniform. It may cause greater difficulties in some areas, but let’s not forget that it will also bring greater benefits to others.
Don’t despair, and don’t stop trying to put this right. We are heading in the right direction. People all around the world are mobilizing against the world's biggest Co2 emitters: their habits.
Since 2010, the number of people changing their diets to eat less meat, choosing public transport rather than using their own cars, and thinking about their carbon footprint before taking planes, has grown exponentially
Since 2015, the number of climate tech startups — companies reinventing cities and industries to be climate positive & carbon zero — has grown exponentially too. According to a BloombergNEF report, climate-tech companies raised $165 billion in 2021 across private and public markets.
Investors are waking up, BlackRock is accounting for more than 72% of the most experienced investors worldwide are investing in climate tech startups, and the next 1000 unicorns will be in this focus, not crypto, not eCommerce.
Corporates are waking up too, corporates representing more than 70% of the global economy are predicted to set targets this year to reach net-zero emissions. Understanding the digital transformation was just the first step of the carbon zero transformation they will have to make to survive the 1.5 degrees era.
By aligning to the Paris Agreement, 900 global companies representing over $17.6 trillion in market cap are already ensuring that their business strategies are built for growth and net-zero emissions by 2030.
All around the world, conferences, and social movements are gathering people who decided to cross the line, refusing the status quo of risking soon their kids dying from climate catastrophes and taking action, at their level.
🌊 Or joining the battle against climate inaction?
Last week, Atlas Capital got invited to one of these gatherings. I had the chance to witness the S$381 billion under asset management of Temasek, hosted by Thai Wah and Rethink, pushing the way forward to a new agriculture net-zero revolution in South East Asia, for the first time post-pandemic.
Yes, this is a small step towards SEA decarbonization, but what if it wasn’t that small?
What if this was the time your actions will be remembered when your children asked you “Daddy/Mummy, what did you do during the 2020s when the climate started to collapse”?
Taking small actions at your level, helping the Atlas tsunami to rise, is still more than what most people do around us. So why not join us in that battle against climate inaction? Join our tsunami! 🌊🌊🌊
We are looking for more advisors and venture partners to help us drive excellency within Atlas Capital. These roles are part-time, fully remote, and of high value to us:
Scientific advisor—supporting the technical due diligence of the companies in our deal flow, people with expertise in energy production, batteries, and chemistry.
Financial advisor—supporting the financial operations of our newly formed fund, people with expertise in investment banking or private equity, and of course an interest in our fund.
We can’t guarantee that working with us will drive 10 gigatons of carbon reduction by 2030 or save your family from the next hurricane.
But we can guarantee you that if you commit to helping Atlas, this will be the hell of a ride, an incredible learning experience and you will be able to sleep at night because you are doing something to reinvent our society to be net-zero and adapted to climate change.
